i was always curious to why indians like to eat with their hands instead of using a spoon or fork, or chop sticks?

The British conquered the indians for a while, how come the indians still love to use hands?

Man, have you tried eating fried chicken with a fork? Or a spoon? Damn impossible and if you manage it with a knife you feel less of a human than you were before.

Most Indian food consists of a sort of bread (naan, chapati's, rotis) with vegetables and some sort of curry, usually daal. The vegetables aren't like celery, carrots, and portatoes, simple foods like that. They are often made into a curry. You take the naan or rotis or chapatis and scoop the vegetables along with the curry for flavor. With these kinds of dishes, forks are of no use because the vegetables are in the curry, and trying to eat the curry with a spoon like soup is disgusting.

I can't speak for every Indian family out there, but my family does not eat a lot of meat. We ate meat maybe twice a week.

I don't know about any connection with God
But most foods you just can't eat with a spoon or fork it would be too slow to but for some things like rice, curry and daal or dishes with meat in them some use a spoon, depends where you go, in India most people don't use a spoon even with some dishes that might require on but outside of India
Where there are Indians they do use a spoon depending on the dish

And I must add you posed the question very ignorently or demeaning
Like indians are fools and that the British should have taught them
The "proper" way to eat

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Don't they just use things like naan bread to scoop up rice etc? I've seen that a lot.

Eating rice with your hands sounds weird to me

I'm the sort of person who will often eat pizza with a knife and fork though. I mostly don't but only with certain meals, like KFC will I accept my hands getting all greasy.

Would it not be easier to use some kind of spoon for curry though? Is eating with hands just a tradition? I can understand not using a fork and knife.

I use spoons for rice and everyone looks at me like I'm an alien.

Using utensils in India signifies royalty and wealth, or outsider. Because India has been eating with their hands for many many generations, this is considered socially as acceptable.
Honestly they don't care if others use utensils, but their preferred method is by hand. Soups by sipping from the bowl.

Think about going to Japan and asking for a fork to eat your sushi.

There's also the fact that many dishes are too slow or inconvenient to
eat with utensils, some dishes are just meant to be eaten wih your hand
Where would a fork or spoon come in when your eating Naan bread and you scoop it into your daal or curry and eat it, it just doesn't
Only time is at the end for me anyways, not that I eat much Indian food these days but use a spoon to drink what's left of my daal or w/e
But I'm in Canada most people would sip it in india
